A few years ago, my beloved friend Lisa texted me " Hey I'm at Ikea, do you need something?". She's a hoot. I said yes oh yes please bring me one of the new HUSET dollhouse furniture sets? And she did, and we had tea together afterwards while I was trying to hide the set from my boy who came armed with bunnies and immediately hacked it. Good friends  make the best memories.

I know I tend to record here only my favorite, sweetest memories. It might feel a little bit selective, if not over-enthusiastic.  I certainly cherish this memory much more than that time, a few months before, when I was on my own in a café on a cold and grey day, in the deafening sound of police and ambulances sirens, waiting for my son’s school to be out of lock out after a shooting a few blocks away at UCLA, while they were doing a death count on TV. I think that, in times like theses, I would be happy to come back here to a happier place and happier times. That’s what the Lapin dans la Lune is for me, and a little bit for you too I hope.

Anyway. The other day I finally took a look at the dollhouse in the big library in my studio and it was really dusty . The miniature Ikea shelves in the real Ikea shelf looked sad and forlorn.  I cleaned the house in the house, then proceeded to add fun stuff...including twenty old fashioned books that I made from covers I found on Pinterest. Then I decided that it was a bit ridiculous for a book designer not to make her own covers, so I designed 26 more, in pretty colors and patterns, and with titles of my own. I don’t think that anybody will really bother to read the tiny titles on the little books, so I had a jolly time creating vintage inspired, colorful covers for books like “Tu Quoque Fili, parenting for Emperors”, and several winks to good friends like “The art of Pie”, or " Cramique, cuisine conceptuelle".

I think it really gives a cosy feel to my little scene. At some point there was too many books to fit in the bookshelves and I piled them here and there...it really looks like my home now!

Here's a little step by step, but it's really, really easy. Like for anything small, be slow and patient and it will be OK.
